The War

The above painting is entitled “Sleep” and is by William Powell Frith, who painted it in 1872.
James Dalton lives on Long Island in New York and is originally from Dublin, Ireland. The poet and author is currently working on a book, The Druids Chair. This poem entitled “The War” is about the struggle when the darkness fights the light at the onset of sleep.
Eyelids droop
The battle begins
The shadows wait
Ready to march
The slaughter subsides
And peace reigns again
Until Tomorrow
