Is this the Beginning of the End for the Bush Crime Family?

By In Essays

Try this: Google “Impeach Bush” and you’ll discover literally thousands of Web sites devoted to the discussion of ousting George W. Bush from office, not to mention holding him criminally liable for negligent homicide and other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Add to this the fact that several of his most loyal partners in crime, Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, and David Safavian have been indicted– with Karl Rove, Lewis “Scooter” Libby,” and Bill Frist waiting in the wings for possible indictments– and it becomes apparent that the once invincible Bush Crime Family is beginning to implode.

There are other signs: Bush’s general approval ratings have never been lower, his poll figures on the Iraq War continue to plummet, and his latest pathetic fumbling of the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina has outraged a majority of Americans, even many of his former Republican supporters and red state loyalists.

At long last, Americans who have supported Bush are beginning to awaken from their long somnambulistic trance and realize what Progressives have been saying all along: George W. Bush, the dimwitted, rich kid/party boy who, without family connections, would have never been anything more than a night manager at a Taco Bell (no offense to Taco Bell!), let alone President of the United States, is not only a liar, a hypocrite, and a greedy little shill for Big Business, but he is also just too downright incompetent to protect the welfare and interests of the citizens of the United States. And so are all his crony appointees, like former FEMA Director Michael Brown or Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, both of whom were hired more for their loyalty than their abilities or experience. As a result, thousands upon thousands of human beings have died needlessly or suffered terrible fates, both at home and abroad– and will continue to do so as long as Bush remains president.

Unfortunately, lying, hypocrisy, greed, and incompetence are not in and of themselves illegal. Which means that as long as Bush and his gang of “badfellas” can say with impunity, “The Feds can’t prove nothin’!” they will continue to sack the country of it economic wealth, destroy its moral integrity, and dismantle its democratic foundation.

Of course a lot depends on the craven, yet hyper competitive mainstream news media. Will their reporters and commentators continue to be the lapdogs of the Bush Crime family, even as it begins to self-destruct? Or will they sense that the tide is beginning to turn and jump on the anti-Bush bandwagon to further their own careers? Only time will tell. My guess is, if Rove, the fat-ass turd blossom consigliore behind the presidential throne, is indicted, mainstream reporters may very well smell blood and move in for the kill. So will the Democrats.

If Rove weasels his way out, however, the mainstream news media probably will continue to play it safe and spin the news for Bush. Which means the Democrats– with notable exceptions like John Conyers and Barbara Boxer– will continue their role as feckless bystanders.

In any case, the progressive press will continue to report the truth about the Bush Crime Family whatever the mainstream news media or the Democrats do or don’t do. We’ve been through the looking glass for a long time and we have no intention of stopping now.
